Class of 1981

Class of 1977
The Ohio State University - Max. M. Fisher College of Business

Mr. Rosenbaum is has received three degrees from The Ohio State University. He says that the reason he stayed at Ohio State was because he could play on the Rugby team here, which was one of his passions. He was on the Wrestling team as well. Currently, he is the President of Rosenbaum & Co., a Forensic Accounting Firm in San Francisco.

Contributions to AIESEC
Mr. Rosenbaum joined AIESEC originally because one of his rugby teammate was in the chapter while he was an MBA student. AIESEC Ohio State had disappeared, and at the time, a student was trying to rebuild the chapter. He decided to help with the application process. Since Mr. Rosenbaum was in a marketing class at the time, he utilized the opportunity to use the marketing plan as a project for class. That way, he was able to get help from the professor and at the time, AIESEC Ohio State was the first chapter to have ever been accepted by the Member Committee with one attempt. Writing up the marketing plan for AIESEC Ohio State was a significant contribution to AIESEC Ohio State at the time.

How AIESEC Shaped His Career
Mr. Rosenbaum was the first to graduate from the chapter. The chapter at the time was so successful that in the fall of 1981, he was hand selected by the Member Committee to go on a Traineeship in Hague, Netherland for 6 months. His internship was with the then prestigious accounting firm, Arthur Anderson. The partner that Mr. Rosenbaum worked under was transferring to Zurich, Switzerland, so he was able to extend his internship for another two months in Zurich before returning to the States to finish his degree.
Mr. Rosenbaum graduated in the summer of 1982. He returned to Zurich immediately after graduation to work under the same partner at Arthur Anderson. After the internship, he agreed to join Arthur Anderson in their San Francisco office full time in the Forensic Accounting department. He worked for the company for 13 years and became partner. When Arthur Anderson became a part of Ernst & Yong, Mr. Rosenbaum was the legal head for the Technology, Communication & Entertainment Group for the West Coast, and traveled to Asia on numerous occasions for investigations. Mr. Rosenbaum says, “AIESEC has really shaped my career”.

Alumnus of the Month

David Worrell
Class of 1990
The Ohio State University
The Max M. Fisher College of Business
BSBA, International Business

Mr. David Worrell is currently a freelance CFO at Rock Solid Finance, a consulting firm specializing in helping entrepreneurs make better decisions, take more effective action, and build a stronger, more profitable business. He is also an accomplished entrepreneur himself – Besides Rock Solid Finance, he has run three other successful companies.. At various times in his career, David has been an executive, a consultant, an author and even a lecturer at the Fisher Graduate School of International Business in Monterey, California.  From 2002-2009. Mr. Worrell was  a regular contributor to the Entrepreneur Magazine on all aspects relating to business finance, acquisitions and exit strategies.
Most recently, Mr. Worrell and his brother Jim (AIESEC Miami, 1978) founded AmeriStart, to assist foreign companies with on-the-ground sales, marketing, promotions, and other business development activities in the USA. His clients now are from all around the world, but mainly India, Europe, Australia and Brazil.

Why AIESEC?
Mr. Worrell became interested in AIESEC after hearing about the amazing experience his older brother Jim (from Miami University, Ohio) had during a professional exchange to Africa. During David’s time at OSU, the local committee of AIESEC Ohio State was not very active, but Mr. Worrell joined anyway as AIESEC was aligned with his major of International Business.

Exchange to Japan:
Despite not going on an exchange through AIESEC, Mr. Worrell spent 5 years living in Japan, starting with 1 year in Fukushima province teaching English under the Japanese Exchange Teaching program (JET). Mr. Worrell says, “everyday was an adventure there”. There, alone in the countryside (Fukushima is quite a distance from the city) and being “the only 5’9 white boy with blonde hair”, he was often mistaken as Michael J. Fox and had people coming up to him requesting pictures or randomly touching his hair. Mr. Worrell describes his experience in Japan this way; “at times, I felt like a semi-celebrity  - certainly one weird but interesting experience”.

Advice to Current Members:
Go for an exchange to experience a whole new culture, to get acquainted with International Business first hand and to bring that experience home to your peers, your collegues and your career.   International business is an interesting field of study and your work in AEISEC is a great foundation for an exceptional career.  Keep up the hard work – it pays off!

Other interesting facts about Mr. Worrell:
Despite living on campus for 4 years at OSU, Mr. Worrell is not a big fan of football.  He is equally at home in Tokyo (with 26 million people) and in the suburbs where he tends his small garden.  He loves all things business, including finance, despite the fact that most business classes put him to sleep during his undergrad at OSU.  Reach out to David on Linkedin… He invites all Buckeyes to join his network (and read his blog at www.RockSolidFinance.com) !

WI12 - A New Chapter

Joining AIESEC is definitely the coolest way to start the year of 2012. I bet all the newbies would agree. Of course, our TMVP, Wei certainly did an excellent job in planning awesome activities for us. AIESEC is all about working hard and having fun! NEMO of this quarter took place at Miller’s house and it was a blast.

“Hi, my name is Po and this cat is my only friend.”
Forever alone? Worry no more, join AIESEC and you will have the best time of your life!

Because we so fly, like a G6.

And we ride virtual horses and look very sexy.

We make the best Mexican food, too!

Also, we carry out fun activities! This is ‘The Circle of Trust’ – carrying a person from one side of the hula-hoop to the other.

Balancing one long straw (when I say long, I mean it) – Connecting six to seven straws and four people balancing it with only their index fingers. This involves a strong team work and is not as easy as it sounds or looks. Well, what does this activity have to do with this sexy looking body-pile? That was a punishment for the people who took the longest time to complete the activity, a.k.a the losers.

And you get to make sexy poses with or be carried by the beautiful ladies.

Last but not least, we teach you how to dance gracefully like this as well.

Apart from NEMO, we had a wonderful time at Skyzone!

We are so amazing that we have Key Bank as one of our sponsors!

James, do come back to see us once in a while after you graduate. Thank you for your hard work and contribution to AIESEC OSU! Good luck!

Paul, have the best time in Japan and we will see you soon!

Every single AIESECer has made this winter quarter very amazing. After all, I can proudly call AIESEC my second family. I LOVE YOU, AIESEC OSU!

Alumnus of the Month

Hello,

AIESEC Ohio State plans to use this blog to update you on the current local committee news, and introducing our former members. Local committee updates will be uploaded once a month on the 1st of every months. This is the very first blog post of the "Alumnus of the Month", which will be uploaded every 15th of the month, introducing a former AIESEC Ohio State alumnus. Our first post features Ms. Deborah Hornberger, an alumnus from 1969:

Deborah Hornberger
Class of 1969
The Ohio State University
The Max M. Fisher College of Business
BSBA, Marketing

Ms. Hornberger is currently the President of Hornberger & Associates, a consulting firm specializing in financial services marketing located in San Francisco, California.  The firm helps financial services firms acquire and retain affluent, emerging-wealth and small business banking clients. She has a wide range of experience in the financial services and non-profits sector from serving on the board of many non-profit organizations.

Why AIESEC?

Ms. Hornberger heard about AIESEC when a member of the chapter presented AIESEC Ohio State in her international business class. She became interested immediately because of the professional experience that the organization offered. She attended the information session that Friday and the application was due two days after.

AIESEC Ohio State at the time:

AIESEC Ohio State had just been formed for a year when Ms. Hornberger joined, but the chapter was already working with major companies in Columbus such as Huntington Bank and Lazarus. The Dean and Assistant Dean at the business school were very supportive of the chapter, and they sponsored the students to attend conferences as well.
Ms. Hornberger also mentions that they were very close with AIESEC Michigan at the time because the Regional Director was from Michigan.

National Conferences:

Ms. Hornberger attended national conferences in Boston and Florida. It was a very exciting experience because they had obtained full member status, and were eligible to vote for the Member Committee President (MCP) of AIESEC United States. At the conference, she also had the opportunity to become friends with students from other local committees (LCs) and to learn from each other’s experience.

Traineeship in France:

During her time at AIESEC Ohio State, six to seven students had the opportunity to intern abroad. It was the first time anyone had gone abroad, and Ms.  Hornberger had the opportunity to go to Marseilles, France as a marketing intern. She was able to gain experience in five different departments, which has helped her tremendously.
During her time in France, she had a German roommate who spoke fluent English and French. They traveled together and had activities every weekend. She was also planning on meeting with a friend from Vietnam for vacation. However, her friend could not come into France due to the Vietnam War at the time. Thus she decided to travel by herself, which was a very brave decision. Certainly she did not tell her parents until after the trip. While traveling, she had the opportunity to meet many  other students along the way and   ended up having three wonderful weeks.

Benefits from Joining AIESEC Ohio State:

Ms. Hornberger gained tremendous benefits from being a member of AIESEC Ohio State. Not only did she get to go abroad, she was also able to network with the Dean and the Assistant Dean at the time, which helped her in finding her job in San Francisco, where she currently resides. Moreover, experiences in business development and interacting with business professionals in AIESEC had helped her become more relaxed and confident during meetings and  job interviews.

Advice to Current Members:

Take advantage of everything that AIESEC has to offer, especially the traineeship opportunities abroad!
