Mr. David
Worrell is currently a freelance CFO at Rock Solid Finance, a consulting firm
specializing in helping entrepreneurs make better decisions, take more
effective action, and build a stronger, more profitable business. He is also an
accomplished entrepreneur himself – Besides Rock Solid Finance, he has run
three other successful companies.. At various times in his career, David has
been an executive, a consultant, an author and even a lecturer at the Fisher
Graduate School of International Business in Monterey, California. From 2002-2009. Mr. Worrell was a regular contributor to the
Entrepreneur Magazine on all aspects relating to business finance, acquisitions
and exit strategies.
Most
recently, Mr. Worrell and his brother Jim (AIESEC Miami, 1978) founded AmeriStart,
to assist foreign companies with on-the-ground sales, marketing, promotions,
and other business development activities in the USA. His clients now are from
all around the world, but mainly India, Europe, Australia and Brazil.
Why AIESEC?
Mr. Worrell
became interested in AIESEC after hearing about the amazing experience his older
brother Jim (from Miami University, Ohio) had during a professional exchange to
Africa. During David’s time at OSU, the local committee of AIESEC Ohio State
was not very active, but Mr. Worrell joined anyway as AIESEC was aligned with
his major of International Business.
Exchange to Japan:
Despite
not going on an exchange through AIESEC, Mr. Worrell spent 5 years living in
Japan, starting with 1 year in Fukushima province teaching English under the
Japanese Exchange Teaching program (JET). Mr. Worrell says, “everyday was an
adventure there”. There, alone in the countryside (Fukushima is quite a
distance from the city) and being “the only 5’9 white boy with blonde hair”, he
was often mistaken as Michael J. Fox and had people coming up to him requesting
pictures or randomly touching his hair. Mr. Worrell describes his experience in
Japan this way; “at times, I felt like a semi-celebrity - certainly one weird but interesting
experience”.
Advice to Current Members:
Go for an
exchange to experience a whole new culture, to get acquainted with
International Business first hand and to bring that experience home to your
peers, your collegues and your career. International business is an interesting field of study
and your work in AEISEC is a great foundation for an exceptional career. Keep up the hard work – it pays off!
Other interesting facts about Mr. Worrell:
Despite
living on campus for 4 years at OSU, Mr. Worrell is not a big fan of football. He is equally at home in Tokyo (with 26
million people) and in the suburbs where he tends his small garden. He loves all things business, including
finance, despite the fact that most business classes put him to sleep during
his undergrad at OSU. Reach out to
